Biography

Colin Son, M.D.

Dr. Son is a board-certified neurosurgeon focused on personalized patient care for those patients with neurological conditions including cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVM), arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), cavernous malformations, strokes, carotid stenosis, Moya Moya disease and other intracranial stenosis, brain tumors and traumatic brain injuries. In addition he is conservative, often times minimally invasive procedures for those with spinal conditions including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spinal fractures, tumors of the spine and back pain.

Dr. Son’s practice is compassionate, conservative and patient centered. For those patients who do require surgery he has extensive experience with new devices and technology and is focused on, when appropriate, minimally invasive techniques. He was the first to use the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device post FDA approval to treat a brain aneurysm in Texas, the first the use the Surpass stent to treat a brain aneurysm in San Antonio and is one of the first neurosurgeons in the region to offer transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR).

A native Texan and a long time San Antonian, after completing undergraduate work at the University of Southern California he returned to San Antonio for medical school and neurosurgical residency. He then completed a neuroendovascular fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.

Now back in San Antonio in practice Dr. Colin Son performs the full breadth of cranial and spinal neurosurgery, including minimally invasive spine techniques. His particular clinical interest however centers on vascular disease including intracranial and extranial atherosclerotic disease (i.e. carotid stenosis), strokes, aneurysms and vascular malformations. He sees patients is his offices in the Texas Neuroscience Institute building in the Medical Center and the office on Sonterra Blvd. in Stone Oak.
